Our Team

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are titanium posts surgically implanted into the jawbone to serve as artificial tooth root. These biocompatible implants fuse with the surrounding bone through a process called osseointegration, providing a stable foundation for replacement teeth, such as crowns, bridges, or dentures. Dental implants offer numerous advantages over traditional tooth replacement options, including improved stability, longevity, and preservation of bone structure.

How do dental implants work?

Dental implants work by integrating with the bone in a process called osseointegration, forming a strong and lasting bond. Once the implant is securely in place, a custom-made crown is attached, replicating the natural look and feel of a real tooth. At Horley & Gatwick Dental Centre, serving patients from Horley and Crawley, we use advanced 3D CT scans to plan every step digitally, ensuring precision and safety. Our team’s expertise allows us to perform even complex cases such as bone regeneration or full-arch restorations efficiently and predictably.

Natural appearance

One of the most remarkable benefits of dental implants is their ability to closely mimic the appearance of natural teeth. Crafted from high-quality materials and meticulously customized to match the color, shape, and size of surrounding teeth, dental implants seamlessly blend into your smile. This natural appearance not only restores your smile’s aesthetics but also enhances your self-confidence, allowing you to smile, laugh, and speak with renewed assurance.

Enhanced functionality

Unlike traditional dentures, which may pose limitations in terms of stability and chewing efficiency, dental implants offer unparalleled functionality. Firmly anchored within the jawbone through a process called osseointegration, dental implants provide a sturdy foundation for replacement teeth, enabling you to bite, chew, and speak with confidence. Whether enjoying your favorite foods or engaging in social interactions, dental implants empower you to embrace life’s pleasures without hesitation.

At Horley & Gatwick Dental Centre, serving Horley and Crawley, each procedure is handled by experienced clinicians using trusted brands like Straumann and Nobel Biocare. Implants are a long-term investment — they restore natural function, prevent bone loss, and enhance confidence. How to relieve pain from dental implant?

After receiving a dental implant, some minor tenderness or swelling is normal. To relieve discomfort, patients can use prescribed pain relief or mild anti-inflammatory medication, apply cold compresses, and avoid hard foods for a few days. At Horley & Gatwick Dental Centre, we provide personalised aftercare instructions for all patients from Horley and Crawley, ensuring smooth recovery. Our clinicians are always available for follow-up support, helping you feel confident and comfortable at every stage of your implant journey.

Are dental implants painful?

Patients often worry that dental implants might be painful, but with modern anaesthesia and precise digital planning, discomfort is minimal. At our clinic near Horley and Crawley, procedures are performed using a gentle, minimally invasive approach, often with the flapless technique. Our implantologists ensure every step is pain-free, from placement to recovery. Mild sensitivity may occur for a short time after surgery, but this is easily managed with over-the-counter medication and proper post-operative care provided by our team.

How long do dental implants last?

With proper oral hygiene and regular check-ups, a dental implant can last a lifetime. At our Horley practice, serving Crawley and surrounding areas, we use only the most trusted implant systems to ensure long-term durability. Materials like titanium and zirconia are biocompatible, allowing the implant to fuse naturally with bone. Maintenance is simple — regular cleanings and check-ups help preserve both the implant and surrounding gum tissue. Our patients enjoy reliable, natural-looking results designed to stand the test of time.

Preservation of bone structure

One of the lesser-known benefits of dental implants lies in their ability to preserve the underlying jawbone structure. Following tooth loss, the jawbone may gradually deteriorate due to lack of stimulation. Dental implants, by serving as artificial tooth roots, mimic the natural tooth structure and stimulate the surrounding bone, thereby preventing bone loss and maintaining facial contours. This preservation of bone structure not only contributes to a youthful facial appearance but also ensures the long-term stability of neighboring teeth.

Longevity

Another significant advantage of dental implants is their exceptional longevity. With proper care and maintenance, dental implants have the potential to last a lifetime, offering a durable and cost-effective solution for tooth replacement. Unlike traditional bridges or dentures, which may require periodic adjustments or replacements, dental implants provide a permanent and reliable solution, eliminating the need for frequent dental visits and associated expenses.

Improved oral health

Dental implants promote optimal oral health by preserving the integrity of adjacent teeth. Unlike traditional bridges, which necessitate the alteration of neighboring teeth for support, dental implants integrate seamlessly into the jawbone without compromising the health or structure of surrounding teeth. This preservation of natural tooth structure promotes long-term oral health and minimizes the risk of decay, gum disease, and other dental issues.

At Horley & Gatwick Dental Centre, serving Horley and Crawley, we use advanced digital workflows to streamline each phase — from consultation to placement. In some cases, same-day restorations are possible, offering immediate function and aesthetics without compromising safety or precision.

What they don’t tell you about dental implants?

What many people don’t realise about dental implants is that success depends on both surgical skill and long-term maintenance. At Horley & Gatwick Dental Centre, we educate every patient from Horley and Crawley on how to care for their implants properly. Regular hygiene appointments, professional cleanings, and check-ups ensure lasting success. Another little-known fact: implants don’t just replace teeth — they preserve bone and facial structure, preventing premature ageing. With the right care, they’re an investment in lifelong oral health.

How to reduce swelling from dental implant?

Mild swelling after a dental implant procedure is completely normal. To minimise it, we recommend using a cold compress during the first 24 hours, keeping the head elevated, and following our soft diet guidelines.
